Before you bundle: five things worth checking

Before you bundle: five things worth checking

1. Price the pieces separately first

A bundle only saves money if you'd buy both halves anyway. Price the internet plan alone, the TV or mobile service alone, then compare the bundle total. If the bundle wins by $10+/mo, proceed; if it only wins by forcing a bigger TV package on you, walk.

2. Find the discount's expiry date

Some bundle discounts are permanent (AT&T's wireless pairing, Verizon's Mobile + Home $15), others are 12-month promos. The broadband facts label and offer fine print state the term, know which kind you're signing.

3. Count the equipment fees

Box rentals, DVR service and extra-room receivers add $10–$30/mo to TV bundles. Ask whether the provider's streaming app on your own device (Roku, Apple TV, smart TV) can replace the boxes, with Spectrum, Xfinity and Optimum it usually can.

4. Check the sports math

Regional sports fees ride along with bigger TV tiers whether you watch or not. If sports is the whole point, DIRECTV CHOICE's lineup is the benchmark; if it isn't, a smaller tier plus one streaming app often beats the mid-size bundle.

5. Confirm the exit terms

Internet and mobile components are contract-free at nearly every major provider in 2026, but satellite TV usually carries a 24-month agreement. Know the early-termination terms for each piece before you stack them.
